An exciting, new youth program is now available through the Eastern Missouri Family YMCA. The free program, Building Leaders–Kids as Teachers, is designed to encourage youths to take the lead in teaching a program for their peers.
The sky is the limit, the YMCA noted, regarding the kid programs that could feature crafts, painting, athletics, vocal, cooking, and more at no charge to participants. A sack lunch or snack will be provided at no cost for each participant during each session. The first program is scheduled for Sept. 16, at 10:30 a.m., in the Y Café. Registration is open now through Sept. 13.
Youth Outdoor Soccer, Flag Football, Cheerleading, Wiffle T-Ball, and Tiny Time Basketball registrations are open at the Y.
Outdoor Soccer is available for 3-year-olds to eighth-grade boys and girls; Flag Football is available for K-sixth graders, Cheerleading is available for K-fourth graders, Wiffle T-Ball is available for 3- to 5-year-old children, and Tiny Time Basketball is available for 3-year-olds to Pre-K children. These programs are available to everyone; the cost varies depending on membership or non-member status. Coaches, instructors, refs, and umpires will be needed.
The annual Fall 5K registration is open from Aug. 18 through Sept. 8. The event will take place at 7 a.m. at the Y on Sept. 23. Tumbling classes will resume in mid- to late-September for ages 3 and 4-year-olds, 5 and 6-year-olds, and 7 and 8-year-olds.
Adult Pickleball Sunday is set for Sunday, Sept. 17, beginning at 1 p.m. The games and tournament schedule will be determined by the number of players. A minimum of eight participants is needed. The cost for registration is $15 per person.
The fall annual support campaign event is set for Nov. 4, in the YMCA gymnasium. Harvest Lucky will feature 20 bingo games, then early bird games, 50/50, silent suction, other games, and an evening meal and snacks. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for dinner, 5:30 p.m. for early bird games, and 7 p.m. for regular bingo games begin.
Beginning Sept. 1, the YMCA will return to its school hours—Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday hours go into effect on Sept. 10.
