The City of Vandalia notified citizens that portions of Main Street would be closed next week.

According to a news release the city said beginning the week of June 24, a section of Main Street—from E. State Street to E. Washington Street would be closed.

“The reason for the closure,” said City Administrator Darren Berry, “is for the replacements of the sewer main.”

Because of the project’s scope, the road would remain closed for several weeks.

“It will remain closed until the project is completed,” Berry added. “Please understand that infrastructure improvements are necessary for the community’s well-being. While inconveniences are inevitable, patience and cooperation from everyone will contribute to a successful project.”

The news release stated that detours routes would be posted to direct traffic away from the worksite. Motorists and pedestrians should plan alternate routes during this time.

Berry said, safety is the Vandalia’s top priority. “So, follow the traffic signs, drive cautiously, and be considerate of fellow travelers.”

Emergency services have been notified of the coming closure. Berry asked that residents share this information with friends, family members and neighbors, so that they’re not surprised by the closure.

“Remember,” he said, “although road closures can be inconvenient, they are essential for maintaining and improving infrastructure. Let’s collectively adapt and cooperate to ensure a successful project outcome.”
