Pike County Memorial Hospital is offering free colorectal cancer screening kits.

The encouraged people to stop by the PCMH Louisiana lobby on Friday, March 22 from 3 – 6 p.m., or the Vandalia Clinic on Wednesday, March 27 from 3 – 6 p.m. for a free colon cancer screening kit.

Why is screening for colorectal cancer so important, asked PCMH?

Many colorectal cancers can be prevented through regular screening. Screening can find precancerous polyps—abnormal growths in the colon or rectum—so that they can be removed before they turn into cancer. Screening is important because when found early, colorectal cancer is highly treatable. Early stages of colorectal cancer usually present no symptoms. Symptoms tend to appear as the cancer progresses.
