Kurt Ervin Bruns

Kurt Ervin Bruns, 82, of Silex, died Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Elsberry Health Care Facility.

Services for Kurt were held Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Bibb-Veach Funeral Homes and Crematory in Silex with Pastor Jeffrey Dock officiating. Burial was in the New Liberty Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, June 3, 2024, from 4 – 7 p.m. at Bibb-Veach Funeral homes and Crematory in Silex.

Kurt was born Sept. 6, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo., to Ervin William and Irma R. (Meers) Bruns. He was united in marriage to Margaret “Elaine” Hart on June 8, 1963, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Charles. Elaine survives.

Also surviving are children Tom (Michelle) Bruns of Corso, Tim (Sharon) Bruns of Middletown, and Sally (Todd) Phillips of Union, Mo.; grandchildren: Michael, Tessa, Nick, Brooke, Luke, Grant, and Cole; great-grandchildren, Riley, Jaxson, and Everly; sisters, Margaret (Ronnie) Plackemeier of Silex, Mary (Bill) Wehmeyer of Flint Hill, Mo., and Carol (Mike) Brocker of Portage Des Sioux, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

His parents died earlier.

Kurt grew up in St. Peters on the family farm. He attended school at Immanuel Lutheran and St. Charles High School, graduating in 1959. Following graduation, Kurt worked as a dry wall hanger. He later was employed with McDonnell Douglas for 10 years as he also helped his father run the family farm. In 1971, Kurt and his family moved in Silex and continued farming. Kurt was a member of the Olney Fire Department, Trinity Lutheran Church, Lincoln County Pork Producers, Farm Bureau, Silex School Board, State and National Corn Growers, Silex FFA, and Northwest Fire Protection District. Kurt’s family was also the recipient of Farm Family of the Year.

Pallbearers will be Michael Bruns, Nick Bruns, Luke Bruns, Grant Miller, Cole Denbow, Matt Mueller, Joey Thompson, and Steve Plackemeier.

Memorials may be made to Silex FFA or Northwest Fire Protection District.
