Contracts for the final development on the Eastern Missouri Family YMCA project is to be officially signed soon with Vandalia native Bill Howell, of Renner Howell Architects, and Grove Construction, both of Columbia, Mo. The contract with Grove Construction for Construction Manager responsibilities was signed on August 26 and the contract is soon to follow.
Bill Howell has been serving as the project architect for several years and will be preparing the final building plans and specifications for project bidding purposes.
Grove Construction will serve as the Construction Manager for the project and will work closely with Bill Howell to review final plan development and evaluate cost saving measures.
After bids are received, both Howell and Grove will review bids and make recommendations to the YMCA and Vandalia Recreation Corporation for contract award. Once construction of the project begins, Grove Construction will oversee the construction process by ensuring the project is being constructed according to the plans and specifications, project progress is occurring according to schedule and budget, plus documentation and material testing is being completed.
The individuals who have served on various YMCA committees are all volunteers, who have devoted their time and talents to bring the project to its current state.
Overseeing the construction of the project, plus certifying proper construction methodology is a full-time and specialized area of expertise.
Therefore, an interview process was held and Grove Construction was selected to serve as the project Construction Manager and represent the interests of the YMCA and the Vandalia Recreation Corporation. Bill Howell and Grove Construction will be responsible for confirming the project is constructed properly and the structure possesses the quality and longevity required to serve the local communities for many, many years.
The timeline for project bidding and ground breaking is still being evaluated, but is anticipated to be established very soon.
Through the generosity of local residents, businesses, and community development organizations, the project has $1.5 million available to begin project construction.
The facility size and contents depend upon the generosity and donations received from the local areas.
