The Eastern Missouri Family YMCA held their first program event with “Kids on the Run.” “Kids on the Run” was held the four Saturdays in October and had a 2K race on November 1. There were 10 participates.
The Saturdays in October were spent teaching kids about running. They met at 7:45-8:30 a.m. with a different topic every Saturday–talking a little about the importance of what it takes to run, proper eating, what body parts you use to run, keeping track of your running miles, and proper stretching before and after. Then they ran.
The group was led by Dana Keller and Felicity Goodpasture-Culwell. Everyone improved from the first Saturday to the last.
Those who participated were LaTrell Wright, Adam McCurdy, Cayden and Madylen Caldwell, Rebecca Moore, Aubri Willis, Devyn Keller, Treyson, Annalynn, and Reece Culwell.
On November 1, the coldest morning of the year, the kids participated in a 2K event, which is 1.5 miles. Devyn Keller and Treyson Culwell finished first in their division.
Devyn had a 8:37 minute mile pace finishing at 12:37 minutes.
Treyson had a 6:48 minute mile pace finishing at 10:32. Everyone improved their times despite the cold temperatures.
“Kids on the Run” will start again sometime in the spring. “We hope to have more participate,” mentioned Dana Keller, YMCA board member.
