On July 18, the Eastern Missouri Family YMCA Project received notification regarding the Mabee Grant application. The notification letter stated there were numerous applications submitted and limited funds available. The application was denied.
“This is disappointing news, but we must remain positive and continue forward. A YMCA facility WILL be built and tailored to the funds raised.” Project Chairperson Felicity Goodpasture-Cullwell stated. “Through generosity and hard work, the project currently has $1.5 million in donations from local residents, businesses, and other grants.”
The various YMCA committees have pulled together and are developing a new strategy for the project. The current floor plan will be reviewed and cost savings strategies considered. It is desired to continue with the ground breaking goal of Fall of 2016. However, the project budget may need to be adjusted. Please continue to review local newspapers and Facebook for progress reports.
While the project goals are being reviewed, the fundraising campaign is gearing up to complete the funding gap to build the project. Many committee members will be contacting local residents seeking donations for the project. Please consider the benefits the YMCA can offer to the area: a facility for all ages, youth programs, job creation, and many more.
If you would like someone to personally visit with you regarding the project, please visit the “Contact Us” tab on the project webpage www.emoymca.org. This tab contains information to email or call project leaders.
The time to build this project is now! If the area continues to remain positive and supportive, the project goals are achievable!
