The Eastern Missouri Family YMCA is excited to introduce Vandalia native April Willis, as our second fitness instructor.
April and her husband Doug have three daughters; Payton, Jenna, and Emily.
April is the Student Career Service Coordinator at Hart Career Center, in Mexico. When asked why being a fitness instructor is important, she said, “I have always loved fitness. Heart disease runs in my family and I am constantly trying to find ways to keep myself healthy. I think exercise is key.”
April recalled that when the YMCA was becoming a reality, Felicity Goodpasture-Culwell encouraged her to think about being a fitness instructor.
April inquired with the Mexico YMCA staff and they pointed her in the right direction. April added that becoming a Certified Group Fitness instructor was difficult, but rewarding.
Tentatively, April will be leading classes two evenings a week beginning at 4:45 p.m. A Slim and Sculpt Class, which will feature the use of hand weights and bands, will kick off Monday and Wednesday evenings. An Abs/Core Strengthening class will follow, ending the evening with a Cardio Strength Circuit class.
“I can’t wait to be on the team at the Eastern Missouri Family YMCA and encourage others to reach their fitness goals and work on their overall health.” April said.
All fitness classes and activities at your YMCA follow the statement: “Work at your own pace. Every journey has to begin somewhere.”
Your Eastern Missouri Family YMCA is scheduled to open Monday, Feb. 11. Classes will begin the following week.
