Wanda Sue (Cottrell)  Runyon, age 83, of Vandalia, passed away at 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Pleasant View Assisted Living Center in Hannibal, Missouri.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from noon until service time at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia.
A service was held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel.
Officiating was Pastor Jamie Franke and Pastor Jeffrey Mims.
Music was provided by Larissa Starke – piano solo; Wayne Lynn – soloist. Interment was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Marvin Yager, Jerad Moyers, Joe Pearl, Reggie Starke, Craig Miller, Roger Cottrell, and Walt Runyon.
Wanda Sue (Cottrell) Runyon was born on April 18, 1931 in rural Frankford, Missouri, the daughter of James and Odessia Beatrice (Nelson) Cottrell.
She married Lloyd David Runyon in Hannibal, Missouri on July 3, 1949; he preceded her in death.
She attended area schools and was a long time member of the First Christian Church in Vandalia. She worked for International Shoe for nine years, Tri-County Care Center for six years and for 12 years at the Pike County Home Health where she retired in 1989. Wanda spent several years raising two granddaughters, Megan and Cathy. She loved God, family, crocheting, fishing, hunting, gardening, flowers, playing cards, reading and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Wanda was also a member of the Vandalia VFW Post No. 2173 Auxiliary and the Monday Study Club.
Survivors include one son, Lloyd Walton and wife, Karen Wilkes Runyon, of rural Vandalia; one daughter, Pam and husband, Joe Pearl, of Bowling Green, Missouri; two brothers, Wayne and wife, Lilly Ann Cottrell, of Kirksville, Missouri; Billy and wife, Virginia Cottrell, of rural Center, Missouri; grandchildren Jackie and husband, Reggie Starke, of Fayette, Missouri; Melissa and husband, Craig Miller, of Bowling Green; Cathy and husband, Brent Borem, of Jackson, Michigan; Megan Runyon, of Jackson, Mississippi and Michael Runyon, of Vandalia; great-grandchildren: Gordon and Larissa Starke; Chase, Gavin and Owen David Miller; Kaitlyn Borem, McKinzie Runyon Murray; also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; parents; two infant brothers; two brothers: Jimmy and Leroy Cottrell; one sister, Betty that died shortly after birth; one great-grandson, Dakota Runyon.
Memorials are encouraged to Community Loving Care Hospice, Bowling Green, Missouri or to Pleasant View Assisted Living Center in Hannibal, Missouri.
