WANDA J. THOMPSON

Wanda J. Thompson passed away November 15, 2014 in Aurora, Colorado. She was 88 years old. Wanda Jean Riney was born south of Curryville, Missouri rural Pike County on April 11, 1926 to Raymond Guy and Rosa Francis Noel Riney. She is the older sister to Velma Ann Wasson (James), Mary Neal O’Leary (Allan) and Doris Marie Powell (Larry).
She spent her early years and graduated from Vandalia High School (Missouri). She married Virgil Eugene Thompson on December 24, 1944. To this union, Raymond Eugene, Ralph Wayne, Ronald Dean, and Sharon Kay were born.
The family moved from Vandalia to Independence, Missouri in 1951 and then to Westminster, Colorado in 1961. Mom was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW.
While she was raising four children, she also worked and then managed a retail catalog department and then moved up to manager of the drapery and interior home design department (Montgomery Wards).
Her final 10 years of work was as executive secretary for a computer company (Auto-Trol). She is survived by sons Ray (Vicki) and Ron (Marilyn); grandchildren Lisa, Erin, Ryan, Justin, Shon, Travis, and Heather and 12 great-grandchildren and numerous extended family.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband Virgil, daughter Sharon and son Ralph
Visitation was held on Thursday, November 20 , 2014 from 5-7 p.m. and a service was held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 10 a.m., both at Olinger Highland Mortuary. Attending the funeral from this area were sisters Ann Wasson and Doris Powell and niece Karen Pennington, form Vandalia; niece Rhonda Cantrell, of Tuttle, Oklahoma; and nephews Daryl Wasson, of Springfield, Missouri; and Jerry Hoagland and wife Karen, of Mexico, Missouri.
Burial was in Olinger Highland Cemetery in Thorton, Colorado.
