The Auxiliary to VFW Post No. 2173 met on Thursday, July 14, at the post home in Vandalia.
President Norma Jean Shaw called the 7 p.m. meeting to order. Opening ceremonies were observed.
The minutes were approved as read for the June meeting. The treasurer’s report showed the current balance with her report being filed for audit.
Correspondence was read from scholarship recipient Jessica Carr, the National Home for Children concerning the Annual Trip, the 2016 Department of Missouri VFW State Commander and President concerning their Homecoming, and an article from the E-Newsletter for July 12 concerning a $5,000 to Veterans Community Project in the Kansas City area.
Community Service Chair Ann Wasson collected hours from the members present and distributed a report sheet for recording community service hours to be reported at meetings.
During the business meeting, the second quarter audit report was accepted, a donation was made to the VFW Post for district meeting expense, and a Flag Retirement Project with the Grand Prairie Society, Children of the American Revolution was initiated.
The District 17 President Jo Ann Diffenderfer gave her remarks including best wishes for doing well as an auxiliary in the district.
She was given a monetary donation.
Closing ceremonies were observed.
The nine members attending were Joy Davis, Vivian Davis, Donna DeTienne, Mary Gramley, Judy Hull, Norma Shaw, Ann Wasson, and Wanda Winders.
The next auxiliary meeting is Thursday, August 11 at the post home. All members are encouraged to attend all meetings.
