The Auxiliary to VFW Post No. 2173 met on Thursday, November 12, at the post home in Vandalia. President Norma Jean Shaw called the 7 p.m. meeting to order.
Opening ceremonies were observed. The minutes were approved as read for the October meeting. The treasurer’s report showed the current balance with her report being filed for audit.
Correspondence from the Department of Missouri was read along with letters from the National Home and Missouri Veterans’ Home.
Chairman Ann Wasson collected community service hours from those members present.
There were no entries in the Patriot’s Pen Contest or the Voice of Democracy Contest.
During the business meeting, donations were made in memory of Ellen “Sis” Flynn to the Baptist Church Food Pantry and in memory of Ray Werner to the Missouri Veterans’ Home in Mexico.
The Auxiliary made plans to participate in the Holiday Craft Fest at Van-Far High School on Saturday, November 14.
Christmas donations were made to the local Salvation Army, Vandalia Ministerial Alliance, and Toys for Tots.
The charter will be draped in memory of member Ellen “Sis” Flynn.
The 11 members attending the meeting were Janet Armstrong, Joy Davis, Vivian Davis, Donna DeTienne, Mary Gramley, Judy Hull, Paula James, Mary Petersen, Norma Shaw, Ann Wasson, and Wanda Winders.
The next auxiliary meeting is Thursday, December 10, at the post home. All members are encouraged to attend.
Persons interested in joining the auxiliary are welcome to complete an application. As of August 21, 2015, the auxiliary is open to both men and women related to Veterans of Foreign Wars.
