The City of Vandalia recently learned that it is now in the Top-15 for safest cities in the state of Missouri.
During a recent City of Vandalia Board of Alderman meeting, City Administrator Darren Berry said that the Missouri Safe Wise Report listed Vandalia as No. 12 on the report of safest cities in Missouri.
A previous report listed the city at No. 73 on the list.
To identify and honor the 20 safest cities in Missouri, Safewise, security and home safety authority, reviewed the most recent FBI Crime Report statistics from 2015, along with population data.
Eliminated were all cities with fewer than 3,000 residents as well as any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI. The remaining cities were evaluated by narrowing down the numbers of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) in each city. To further level the playing field, they calculated the likelihood of these crimes occurring out of 1,000 people in each city.
The report noted the city’s violent crimes per 1,000 total was 0.95. Property crimes per 1,000 was 10.49.
Greenwood was No. 1 on the list. It has a violent crimes per 1,000 mark at 1.08 and property crimes came in at 3.79 per 1,000.
The only other area town on the list was Wright City, which came in at No. 16.
