The accident took place just off Highway 54 in Vandalia.

A Vandalia woman suffered moderate injuries last Wednesday morning when her vehicle was struck by a train at the railroad intersection of Audrain County Road 577 and U.S. Highway 54.
The accident occurred around 5 a.m. when Hannah Landers, age 26, of Vandalia, was driving her 2017 Chevrolet Equinox.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash Report, Landers failed to observe a train at the railroad crossing that does not have a crossbar and bells but just a yield sign with a railroad crossing designation.
Her vehicle was struck in the side by a Kansas City Southern locomotive driven by Wade Gibbs, age 35, of Fairview Heights, Ill.
Landers was transported by ambulance to SSM St. Mary’s Hospital-Audrain with moderate injuries that included back, hip, and leg pain. It was the second accident at the same intersection in less than a year. Last December, two women were hurt when they were hit by a locomotive five days before Christmas.
