Vandalia residents hurt in wreck

Three Vandalia residents were injured in a two-vehicle accident on October 10 at 6:55 p.m. in Pike County at U.S. Highway 54, west of Route U.
Ariel L. Harvey, age 20, of Vandalia, the driver of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, received minor injuries and was transported to Pike County Memorial Hospital by ambulance.
Charles L. Cunningham, age 45, of Vandalia who was a passenger in Harvey’s vehicle received moderate injuries and was transported to Pike County Memorial Hospital by ambulance.
Rita E. Cunningham, age 41, of Vandalia, who was also a passenger in Harvey’s vehicle, received moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Pike County Memorial Hospital.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash Report, both vehicles were eastbound and the accident occurred as Harvey slowed due to oncoming traffic and the driver of a 2008 Dodge Ram, Chad M. Shaffer, age 34, of Mexico, failed to notice the vehicle driven by Harvey had slowed down. The front of Shaffer’s vehicle struck the rear of Harvey’s vehicle. Shaffer was not injured in the accident. Both vehicles received moderate damage. Shaffer’s vehicle was towed from the scene and Harvey’s vehicle was able to be driven from the scene of the accident.
