Vandalia man, Curryville woman injured in crash with deer

A Vandalia man and a Curryville passenger were injured in a crash with deer in Pike County at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 6. 

Wesley D. Fuget, 30, of Vandalia was driving a 2005 Pontiac G6 on northbound Hwy. V at Pike County Road 451 when the crash occurred, seriously injuring himself and his passenger. His passenger was Amber N. Hobbs, 27, of Curryville. 

According to the report by the Missouri Highway Patrol, Fuget “swerved to miss a deer in the roadway. [Fuget] overcorrected, causing vehicle 1 to travel off the right side of the roadway and down an embankment. Vehicle 1 struck the ground, traveled up the embankment and struck several trees before returning to the roadway.”

Hobbs was transported by air evac to University Hospital in Columbia. Fuget was also transported to University Hospital.

The crash was investigated by MSgt B.W. Long of Troop C. No further details are available.
