A 70 year reunion of the members of the Vandalia High School Class of 1945 was held at the VFW Hall on Saturday, May 16.
The original class had 46 members with four men in the service of World War II before graduation. There are 21 remaining members and 10 were present for the reunion. A social hour was enjoyed as members arrived, signed in and signed cards addressed to the 11 members unable to attend.
A table displayed pictures and a memory album of the 13 reunions held before.
Lunch was catered by the Country Cupboard with a cake decorated with 1945 in class colors of blue and white.
Welcome was by Malcolm Coose. A memorial for the 26 members deceased was held by Norma Shaw. Letters from Wanda Dempsey Miller, Paradise, Calif.; Doris Murphy Pebley, Riverside, Mo.; and Martha Thompson Trower, of Vandalia, were read.
A letter from the daughter of Willard Renner stating that he had fallen and broke a hip was read. A poem was read by Helen Jerman. Members and guests attending were Earl and Mina Lou Jackson, of Bethlehem, Pa.; Warren and Zora Cook, of Moline, Ill.; Ed Waters, of Springfield, Mo.; Ann Mathews Meiner, son Steven and wife Lynne, of St. Louis, Mo.; Wanda Lovelace Hanson, of Bowling Green, Mo.; Helen Forgy Barrett and son Boyd, of Vandalia, Mo.; Helen Griggs Jerman; Harold and Virginia Fowler; Malcolm and Patsy Coose; and Norma Aderton Shaw, of Vandalia, Mo.
