The Vandalia Gamecocks players and coaches couldn’t help but get ahead of themselves this past week when they were just two games away from reaching a plateau of 20 straight victories.
The team responded by picking up two wins to push their winning streak to 20.
On June 13, the Gamecocks held off Eolia (McKinney) 11-8 in extra innings. Wyatt McDowell earned the victory while Lucas Robinson picked up the save.
Austin Brewster led the offense by going 2-for-3.
One June 18, the Gamecocks shut out Bowling Green (Kingsley) 8-0.
It was a close 1-0 game through two innings before the Gamecocks had a two run third inning and scored five runs in the fourth.
“We hit the ball in clutch situations; can’t ask for more than that,” said coach Nolan Gilley.
McDowell once again picked up a victory on the mound while Robinson earned the save.
Jake Stuart led the offense with a triple and two RBIs, both in the fourth inning. He also scored one run. Trey Hull went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
