Many Vandalia area residents who spend time on the Social Media platform “Facebook” were pleasantly surprised recently when they saw a photo from Rogersville Pharmacy featuring a familiar site.
Rogersville Pharmacy, a business located near Springfield, Mo., installed a soda fountain, a main counter, and eight stools that were used for many years at Vandalia Drug.
Owner Jim Coker purchased  the items off Craig’s List from Travis and Nancy Case, of Vandalia.
The journey to Rogersville for items from the old Vandalia Drug began when Travis and Nancy Case purchased the former Vandalia location from Joe Salois.
“I always loved the old drug store,” Travis Case said. “I told him if he was ever interested in selling the contents…It turned into the building an everything in it.”
Travis Case said he was looking for a place to store the large amount of “junk” he had at his home in his garage collected through his hobby of buying items at auctions, etc.
When looking to find a good home for the soda fountain and other related items, he listed them for sale on Craig’s List, where he received interest from potential buyers all over the country.
Hauling the items for these possible buyers became a big challenge.
Travis then said he discussed the issue of moving the items with his brother Even.
With the focus on getting a “big, old” trailer, it took about a week or so to unhook and detach the items.
They loaded the items for Coker after his purchase and drove them to Rogersville, where a big team awaited them to unload the trailer last year.
“It’s just kind of a touch of Vandalia,” Travis Case said about the soda fountain, old counter, and stools. “A lot of people know about it, and some live down there and will stop and see it when they go that way.”
Travis Case added that he kept one of the old Vandalia Drug stools and donated it to the Vandalia Area Historical Society.
Rogersville Pharmacy, which opened in 2007, is located at 319 S. Main St., Suite N in Rogersville.
