President Paul Ray opened the November 22 meeting of the Vandalia Area Historical Society by asking for new discoveries and donations.
Charlene Teague reported the following: Ron Morris donated a wooden box which had contained Remington Shur Shot Shells shipped to Williams Hardware, two Vandalia Drug Coffee cups, a Vandalia State Band salt and pepper shaker, and a small glass tray picturing the old Vandalia State Bank. Judy Clossen donated Women’s Eastern Reception and Diagnostic Center and Vandalia, Missouri Partnership Pins celebrating the ground breaking on May 21, 1996, several Vandalia Centennial Coins, and two boxes of Farber Centennial Coins.
She also donated a framed group of small compartments containing destination tags for bags of mail to be taken to the Railroad Station.
These were used at the Post Office for some years.
These donations are much appreciated.
Charlene also reported that the 1931 Vandalia class ring belonging to Helen Scott had been returned to her daughter. The story of this meeting and some pictures are being mailed and will be shared via “The Vandalia Leader,” A happy ending to this story.
After regular reports were read and accepted, plans for the Card Party Fundraiser were discussed. It will be held January 23, 2016 at the museum.
The museum will be open at 5 p.m. for tours and appetizers. Soup, sandwiches, and dessert will be served at 6 p.m., with 10 Point Pitch card games starting at 7 p.m.
There will be a short break about 9 p.m., then play will continue until 10:30 p.m. The tickets will be $25 each and may be picked up at the museum during regular hours or can be purchased by calling Charlene Teague at 594-3026. Checks may also be mailed to the Vandalia Area Historical Society, P.O. Box 7, Vandalia, Mo. 63382. Available space will limit the number of tickets sold, so get yours early. The deadline is January 10. There will also be a silent auction.
We had an excellent response last year and everyone seemed to have a good time. Please come join us!
After setting the next meeting date for December 19 at 9 a.m., the meeting adjourned at 10:15 a.m. Everyone is welcome at our meetings.
