Vandalia Area Fair kicks off this Thursday

The band “Contagious” is set to perform at this year’s Vandalia Area Fair.

The 40th Annual Vandalia Area Fair is set to kick-off on Thursday night featuring several events packed into three days of entertainment July 7-9 at the Vandalia Area Fairgrounds.
The schedules starts on Thursday with the fairgrounds opening at 5 p.m.
The decorated tricycle/bicycle contest will be held at the Vandalia Post Office at 5 p.m. followed by the 5:30 p.m. parade that starts at South School.
The inflatables will be ready for kids starting at 6 p.m.
An ice cream and cake social, sponsored by the Alethea Club, will be held in the school building at the same time along with a big equipment display.
The Little Mr. and Little Miss Contest will be held inside the pavilion starting at 6:30 p.m.
The Horse and Pony Fun Show will be held in the Horse Arena starting at 7 p.m.
This year’s Garden Tractor Pull will also start at 7 p.m. on the main track.
“Wayne Lynn and Friends” will perform at 8 p.m.
Cost for admission at press time on day one is $3 with children ages 3 and under getting in for free.
Day two is highlighted by a doubleheader with entertainment acts in the evening.
“Riverside” will perform in the pavilion from 6-7:45 p.m. followed by the return of “Contagious” to Vandalia from 8-10 p.m.
Both the fairgrounds open and sign-up for the Baby Show starts at 5 p.m. Registrations will be taken until 5:45 p.m. inside the school building.
The Baby Show will also be held at 6 p.m. inside the same building.
An Old Machinery and Antique Tractor Display starts at 5 p.m.
A first responder demonstration will be on display at 6 p.m.
The inflatables also open at the same time.
A Power Wheel Derby is slated from 7:30 p.m. on the Main Track with a 7 p.m sign-up.
Participants are to be ages 3-9 and they bring their own power wheel, wear a seat belt, and wear a helmet.

Admission is $5 on day two with children ages 3 and under being free.
Day three features the group “Push Band” performing from 7-10 p.m.
The long day three will start with the 4-H and FFA Cattle Show in the Cattle Barn.
The fairgrounds open at 5 p.m. while inflatables also open at 5 p.m.
“Money in the Straw” starts at 5:30 p.m. along with a 6 p.m. “Teen Texting Contest.” Registration for the texting event starts at 5:45 p.m.
A Mud Pig Catch was added late and will begin at 6 p.m. with registrations being taken between 5:30-5:50 p.m. This event is at the Horse Arena.
The Missouri Farm Pullers return to the main track and begin their evening at 7 p.m.
Admission costs $5 and ages 3 and under are free.
Supper passes are available this year as Fair officials want to do the cooking for folks choosing to purchase these special admission passes.
Due to the carnival not taking place this year, there will be handicap, senior, and supper pass parking close to the Fair stand.
There is no beer garden this year but spectators can bring their own alcoholic drinks in a cooler and pay a $10 fee.
