The Vandalia Area Chamber of Commerce has always been a part of community spirit and development. This year, they are taking a significant step forward by promoting the Young Ambassadors program at Van-Far High School, a new initiative designed to cultivate leadership and community engagement among the youth.
The Young Ambassadors program aims to empower students by providing them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills, communicate effectively, and give back to their peers and the wider community. The program is open to junior and senior students at Van-Far High School who are eager to make a difference and take on leadership roles.
The Chamber’s vision for the Young Ambassadors program is to create a group of young leaders who are not only academically proficient but also socially responsible and community oriented. The Chamber believes that by investing in area youth, it is investing in the future of Vandalia. These young ambassadors will be the ones who carry forward the values and spirit of this community.
The Young Ambassadors program includes a variety of activities and projects designed to enhance students’ leadership and communication skills.
Participants will engage in:
• Community Service Projects—Students will have the opportunity to plan and execute community service projects that address local needs.
• Peer Outreach—Ambassadors will work on initiatives to foster a positive school environment and support their fellow students.
One of the key aspects of the Young Ambassadors program is its focus on building bridges between the school and the community. By involving local businesses and organizations, the program aims to create a network of support for the students. This program is about creating a sense of unity and collaboration. The Chamber wants these students to feel connected to their community and understand the impact they can have for the future.
The launch of the Young Ambassadors program has been met with enthusiasm from the students and the school staff. For the first run, there were 12 juniors and seniors who applied for the new program.
Here are a few reasons the high school students feel the Young Ambassador program will help them in the coming year. Abbie Shelton, a senior, said, “I am interested in becoming a young ambassador because I want to become more involved in my school, community and other students’ lives by encouraging them to take pride in their school and community.”
Ayla Kampeter, a senior, said, “It will look good on college applications and its also an easy way to get involved.”
And finally, Dalana Gay, said, “As a student athlete, the community helps provide me and others with opportunities and resources and this would be a great way to give back to the community and help the younger generations of Van-Far.”
As the program kicks off, the Vandalia Area Chamber of Commerce said it is confident that the Young Ambassadors will become a vital part of the community, bringing fresh ideas and energy to Vandalia.
With the support of the Chamber, the school, and the community, these young leaders are poised to make a lasting impact. The Young Ambassadors program is more than just an extracurricular activity; it’s a movement towards a brighter, more connected future for Vandalia.
Through this initiative, the Chamber promotes leadership and community service as well as fostering a sense of pride and belonging among the youth of Vandalia.
