Recently, the City of Vandalia received a prestigious honor from the Best Friends Network, a nationwide coalition of shelters, rescue groups, and animal welfare organizations.
The network’s mission? To save the lives of homeless pets and create a world where no animal is left behind.
The honor came because of Vandalia’s efforts to promote pet adoption and responsible pet ownership. The city’s animal shelter has dedicated staff working day and night to find loving homes for every dog that crossed their path.
The Best Friends Network bestowed this honor upon the City of Vandalia for exceeding the critical 90% benchmark. To achieve no-kill status, a shelter must save at least 90% of the cats and dogs entering its doors
Vandalia’s efforts ensured that more than 90% of these beloved animals found safe and loving homes. City Clerk Brandie Gay and Mayor Ralph Kuda presented this award to Kevin Griggs, parks laborer.
Griggs makes it his mission to take care of the dogs and makes sure they are well taken care of while they stay in the city’s pound.
Griggs does an exceptional job and the city was honored to present him with this plaque, Kuda said.
