The Van-Far/Community R-VI Junior High football team took on the Louisiana Bulldogs October 7 on their home field. The Indians walked away with yet another victory.
The Indians kicked the ball off to start the game. The Indians’ defensive line held the Bulldogs back early, forcing a turnover on downs.
Caden Wilburn then launched a pass to Trey Miller for a 35 yard touchdown.
Eric Hombs was able to find a hole to make the extra point conversion putting the Indians on the scoreboard 8-0 with 4:20 left in first quarter.
The Bulldogs moved their way up the field and was able to score a touchdown with 1:52 on the clock. The extra point conversion was no good making the score 8-6.
With the Indians back in possession of the ball, Wilburn threw a pass to Hombs for a 20 yard gain. With only :33 seconds left in the first quarter, Wilburn handed the ball off to Miller, which found a hole and scored on a 27-yard touchdown run. The extra point conversion was no good, making the score 14-6 going into the second half.
With the Bulldogs in possession, the Indians’ defense stood strong forcing a turnover on downs.
With the Indians back in control of the ball, Wilburn handed the ball off to Hombs, who gained 44 yards before being brought down.
On the next play, Miller was able to find an opening to gain 22 yards for the touchdown. Hombs converted the extra point to push the Indians lead to 22-6 with only 1:42 left before halftime.
The Bulldogs were in possession of the ball and fought to get down the field. They attempted a pass, which was intercepted by Wilburn.
With just seconds left on the clock, Miller tried to make it into the endzone with a 27 yard rush but was brought down just as the buzzer sounded for halftime.
Starting in the third quarter, the Indians had the ball as Hombs was able to gain 29 yards. But the Indians were unable to make it to their endzone, turning the ball over on downs.
The Indians’ defense held the Bulldogs where they were and forced a turnover right back. Neither team was able to score in the third quarter. Going into fourth quarter, both teams were fighting to find their endzone.
The Bulldogs were in possession of the ball with just a few minutes left in the game and threw a pass that was intercepted by Wilburn again putting the Indians back in control of the ball with just 1:48 left in the game.
The Indians then moved the ball down the field. Garrett Looney had a 28 yard gain. With just seconds left, Wilburn fired the ball to Hombs for a 32 yard touchdown.
Miller then had an extra point conversion, making the final score 30-6.
Devin Fleming and Cole Chrisman led the team in defensive tackles.
The Indians will wrap their season up on Tuesday, October 14 against Mark Twain.
