The Van-Far Scholar Bowl team finished second in last week’s district competition held at Van-Far High School.
“I was so impressed with our team; advancing to the semifinals alone, was a major accomplishment,” said Van-Far Scholar Bowl Advisor Mindy Nasir as her team advanced to the semifinals for the first time since she’s been coach. “The difficult level of the questions, especially for the championship round, was unbelievable.”
Bryan Mink was named Outstanding Scholar Bowl participant. He was the top individual scorer with 49 points.
“His graduating from high school leaves a major role to fill for our team,” Nasir added.
The district also featured Clopton, Elsberry, Louisiana, Mark Twain, and Monroe City.
Van-Far opened the district contest by defeating Louisiana 330-110 in Round 1. Van-Far lost to Monroe City in Round 2 360-240 before knocking off Elsberry 300-190 in Round 3. In the semifinals, Van-Far knocked off Mark Twain 280-170.
They then lost in the championship match to Monroe City, 440-110.
