The search for a new Van-Far R-I School District superintendent came to a close on Wednesday morning, March 13.
Dr. Stephen Hunter was interviewed in a Tuesday evening, March 12, closed session meeting of the school board. He was presented a contract the following day.
Hunter will fill current Superintendent Chris Felmlee’s spot when Felmlee officially leaves Van-Far on June 30 for Southern Boone County R-I School District to become superintendent.
Hunter comes from Troy, Mo. He served as principal of Troy-Buchanan High School for nine years. Prior to his role as principal, Hunter served a four-year term as assistance principal for the high school.
“I think at this point in my career, superintendent is a natural step,” Hunter said. “But what really drew me here is the people. The school is the heart of the community. You can tell academics here is important and (the students) achieve well. The district is in solid financial shape, and I hear it has a wonderful teaching staff and wonderful kids.”
