Van-Far R-I School District applies for Vo-Ag Greenhouse grant

Posted on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 8:48 am

The Van-Far R-I School Board took a big first step towards getting a Vo-Ag Greenhouse for the district during it’s meeting held Thursday, March 22.
A quote has been secured for a 30’x48’ greenhouse that includes all necessary heating, cooling, and watering systems.
With the cost of the greenhouse being estimated at $81,782, the district share with the help of the grant would be approximately $30,000, this according to board minutes.
By a 7-0 vote, the board approved the submission of the Greenhouse grant. If approved the board would later decide if this is an expense they want to approve. Deadline for submission of the grant was March 26.
Motley recognized
Outgoing school board president Kevin Motley was recognized for his service to the district as his three year term will end in April. He was presented a mantel clock as a token of appreciation.
Teacher Contracts
In Executive Session, the board approved contracts for the Jr./Sr. non-tenure list with the exception of Doreen Schneidler, Teresa Winders, and Jackie Waller. Waller was approved as counselor, Winders became a tenured teacher, and Schneidler was hired after a 5-2 vote with Christy Nelson and Jim Hopke casting the two “No” votes.
The elementary non-tenure list was also passed with the exception of Melissa Felmlee and Cheryl Schneidler. The two had their contracts approved as tenured teachers.
Larry Myers was hired as a seasonal grounds keeper and mower at $9 per hour for 30 hours a week.
Robin Jennings was hired as counselor and Joy Davis was hired as part-time A+ coordinator.
During the regular board meeting, elementary art teacher Sierra Parker’s letter of resignation was accepted.
