Just like Van-Far’s boys team, the Lady Indians extended their winning streak to two games last week after defeating Wellsville for the second time in four days.
This time, the Lady Indians went on to Wellsville’s home court and left with a 38-26 victory.
Van-Far jumped out to a 10-4 first quarter lead and held on to a 19-13 lead at halftime.
The Lady Indians did just enough in the second half to pull away from Wellsville as they outscored the Lady Tigers 19-13 to hold on for a 12-point victory.
“Early on in the game it looked like we may break away from them but they fought hard the entire game and never quit,” said Van-Far head coach Blake Logan.
Jenise Johnson sparked Van-Far’s offense as she finished with 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
“Jenise Johnson had a breakout game running the floor, finishing layups, making great passes and, as always, pulling down boards,” Logan said.
“We had trouble with a Kellogg of Wellsville in the first half and when I put Jenise on her in the second half she was a non-factor. Jenise is a heck of an athlete with the potential to do this every game and I hope she continues this kind of output.”
Kasey Gatson tallied seven points, five rebounds, and four assists; both MaKenzie Wallace and Jessie Fowler had five points; Jaselle Brookins added three points; and Brooke Johnson scored two points. The Lady Indians are participating this week in the Palmyra Invitational at Palmyra.
