A large section of the crowd showed their support by painting the gym pink with the “Paint It Pink” shirts.

A sea of pink showed in the stands at the Van-Far FBLA club’s first annual “Pink Out” held during the varsity girls and boys basketball teams’ final home game of the season on Tuesday, February 12.

With 43rd District State Rep. Jay Houghton in charge of the ceremonial opening toss of the girls game, the group raised $791 for the American Cancer Society and held several mini-events throughout both games, including the auctioning of boys and girls basketball team posters,  a “Pink Swag” contest, a bouquet drawing, and a “Cancer Walk” honoring cancer survivors.

The boys basketball team poster sold for $300 at auction with the girls’ team poster bringing in $130. Senior Dylan Stubblefield was the high-school division “Pink Swag” winner and Rebecca Motley won the younger division. Kora Jennings won the bouquet drawing. Participants in the “Cancer Walk” were Adam Falloon, Louise Conway, Dempsey Dixon, GeneAnn Dixon, Kim Hodde, Amber Crane, Margaret Nilges, and Nancy Nation.
