The Van-Far Music Department held a Contest Preview Concert for its choir and band students set to perform in the District Contest to be held March 24-25.
Van-Far’s Mixed Chorus opened the event with “Sing Cantate Domino!”
Soloists Sharon Baur (soprano), Makayla Vigil (alto), and Colin Wilburn (baritone) were featured for the song “Come in from the Firefly Darkness.”
The final song was “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho.”
Van-Far’s Chiefs Wind Ensemble played “Coast Guards.”
Soloist Jayson Orr, on the french horn, helped in the next song, “Atlantis: The Lost Continent.”
The Van-Far Men’s Trio followed by singing “Poor Wayfaring Stranger.” The singers included Cameron Barsé (tenor), Orr (tenor), and Wilburn (baritone).
Van-Far’s Octet sang “Throw Open Your Shutters.” Members included Ashley Stanich (soprano), Maddie Dunn (soprano), Makayla Vigil (alto), Alivia Graddy (alto), Barsé (tenor), Nathan Carlisle (tenor), Alex Flowers (bass), and Morgan Slatten (bass).
There were several solos also performed durn the event.
The long list of soloists and their songs included Ethan Winders (trumpet, “English Suite”), Sharon Baur (soprano, “Into the Night”), Averie Cotrrell (alto saxophone, “Contempra Suite”), Carlisle (tenor, “Across the Western Ocean”), Aubrey Bunge (flute, “Adagio”), Vigil (alto, “American Lullaby”), Dylan Gaage (snare drum, “Parade of the Clicking Sticks”), Stanich (soprano, “This Little Rose”), Lauren Shaw (clarinet in Bb “Meditation” from ‘Thais’), Barsé (tenor, “Shenandoah”), Tyler Robinson (trombone, “Hasse Suite”), and Orr (horn in F, “Intermezzo”).
Junior High students set to peform at the district event include Harley Brewster (percussion), Skylar Deimeke (percussion), Parker Hull (percussion), Rebecca Calvin (clarinet), Lily Boushard (clarinet), Trevor Winders (saxophone), Cameron Jones (trumpet), Ashton Garnett (trombone), and Harley Young (baritone T.C.).
