The Van-Far Music Department celebrated with its End of the Year Concert held on Monday, May 9.
Senior Janie Swarthout was the evening’s big award winner as she received both the Bertram Cowley Memorial Scholarship and John Phillip Sousa awards.
The evening began with the High School Choir singing “Just the Way You Are” with a featured solo from Makayla Vigil.
Ashley Stanich sang a solo during “Hello” before the choir finished with “Irish Blessing.”
Several seniors were then recognized. They include Austin Brewster (trombone), Michael Colson (baritone), Darion Davis (trumpet), Christina Florea (soprano), Brendan Flowers (tenor/percussion), Micaella Love (alto), Madison Orr (flute/piccolo), Josh Parrott (bass), and Janie Swarthout (alto saxophone).
The High School Band opened their performance with “The Ringmaster.”
They then performed “The Civil War” with the melodies “The Battle Cry of Freedom,” “Tenting Tonight,” “The Bonnie Blue Flag,” “When Johnny Comes Marching Home,” “Dixie,” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
A senior selection “Encanto” was performed with solos from Orr, Swarthout, and Davis.
