The Van-Far R-I School District hired a new music teacher to take over for the departing Eric Eckhoff during its Executive Session after a special board meeting held on Wednesday, June 6.
Brad Heckman was officially hired by a unanimous vote to be the district’s new music teacher and pep band/music sponsor.
Heckman is not new to the area.
He has been the band instructor at Montgomery County R-II since 2008. Before his time with the Wildcats, he’s worked at Hallsville, New Bloomfield, Community R-VI, West Pike C.U.S.D. No. 2, Senath-Hornersville, and Louisiana.
Heckman holds a Master of Education in secondary administration from William Woods University and earned his bachelor of music in education degree from Culver-Stockton College.
During the same Executive Session, Wes Rowden was named the 12th grade sponsor and new teacher Juli Hackethal was named the 11th grade sponsor.
Kelly Orf was hired as the high school girls basketball team’s assistant coach and the high school girls softball team’s assistant coach.
In the special meeting, the district approved a measure to purchase a new mower.

Five board members were present as both Larry Wheeler and Dr. Greg Frost were unable to attend the meeting.
