Current Bowling Green Middle School Principal Kim Pafford has officially been hired as the next Principal of Van-Far Jr./Sr. High School beginning July 1. She is taking over the position at Van-Far after current Principal Cindy Pirch completes her final year before retiring. Principal Pirch announced her retirement in September 2015.
The Van-Far R-I Board of Education approved Principal Pafford by a 5-1 vote last Wednesday evening, with Board Member Larry Wheeler casting the lone “No” vote. Board Member Kimber Nation didn’t vote as she wasn’t present for the meeting.
Principal Pafford was hired at $77,000 annually plus benefits.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to work with students through their high school years and be a part of a team that guides them to finding their purpose and passion,” Principal Pafford said. “I’m very excited to work with Dr. (Stephen) Hunter as he has always been someone I have respected a great deal. The communities of Vandalia and Farber are known to be big supporters of the school system and that makes for a wonderful educational environment in which to work. Mrs. Pirch will be an extremely tough act to follow and I hope when it is my time to leave Van-Far, I have a margin of the respect and admiration she has from her staff, students, and community.”
Principal Pafford has spent 21 years in education and has been with the Bowling Green R-I School District for her entire career. For the past eight years, she has served as Principal of Bowling Green Middle School.
“I will miss the people I work with everyday the most,” Principal Pafford said. “They are an incredible group of educators and students and I’ve been very blessed to work with them over the years.”
“We greatly look forward to Mrs. Pafford’s leadership and are excited about her ability to lead a school building that has experienced strong academic success,” said Van-Far Superintendent Dr. Stephen Hunter. “With her background and experience, we are confident she will be a positive difference maker for our students, staff, and community. The fact that she has already began her transition to her now role in immediately meeting with Mrs. Pirch shows her enthusiasm and commitment.”
Prior to becoming Principal, she served as a Mathematics teacher, Computers, Reading and Publications teacher at Bowling Green. She was also Head Varsity Volleyball Coach for six seasons and an assistant coach for three seasons.
She is a graduate of the University of Iowa. She earned her Master of Arts in Educational Administration from William Woods University and is completing her Specialists Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Missouri Baptist University. She has successfully written the High Schools That Work/Making Middle Grades Work Grant and the Leader in Me Grant for Bowling Green.
Principal Pafford and her husband Mike have three children. Two are in college and one at home.
