The Van-Far R-I School Board heard an architectural firm presentation during their monthly meeting last Thursday.
Prior to the meeting, the Facilities Committee met to review and discuss the results of the Community Facilities Survey. It reviewed and scored the Architectural Services Request for Qualifications and narrowed the choices down to two presenters.
The first was Jay and Jon Berendzen from Porter, Berendzen & Associates, PC from Columbia, Mo., as they outlined their services and the process involved in a project.
Chris Davis, from P.W. Architects of Columbia, Mo., emphasized information included in their RFQ and discussed their services.
After the two presentations, the board scored both firms and discussed the steps involved in the project.
Superintendent Dr. Stephen Hunter that revisited with the board the ESCE Capital Cost Agreement through DESE that will reimburse the district for costs related to the Early Childhood facility construction over eight years.
Superintendent Dr. Stephen Hunter said the architects can help the district set its “menu” of what things might need done in the district.
He noted the need for a work session in January.
Superintendent Dr. Stephen Hunter reported total enrollment of 610 students, with 242 in the Jr./Sr. High School and 368 in the Elementary School.
Dr. Hunter said Summer School is planned and is dependent upon DESE funding. Summer projects will be considered in the planning of the location of Summer School.
The School Board voted to change the January meeting date to January 22 instead of the third Thursday at 6 p.m., with two members casting a “No” vote. Members, by a 5-2 margin, voted to hold the February meet
