On Nov. 13, Van-Far Elementary celebrated World Kindness Day with an initiative called “Supplying our Seniors.”
The entire school community came together to collect items for residents of local nursing homes. According to the school, the drive was a resounding success, with a total of 153 items gathered for the seniors. The Vandalia Rotary Club also generously donated $100 towards the drive, further supporting the cause.
The collected items will be distributed to Tri-County Baptist Home, Kings Daughters, and the Veterans Home, ensuring that many seniors in the community benefit from the kindness and generosity of VFE.
In addition to the supply drive, the students at VFE poured their creativity into making Thanksgiving-themed crafts to bring joy to the nursing home residents. The youngest students, from pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, made handprint turkeys. First and second graders crafted handprint wreaths, while third and fourth graders created centerpiece pumpkins. The fifth and sixth graders added a festive touch with their pie garlands.
The “Supplying our Seniors” drive and the Thanksgiving crafts were a testimony to the spirit of kindness at Van-Far Elementary. It was a day filled with joy, creativity, and the warmth of giving, making World Kindness Day truly special for all those involved. The event not only brought smiles to the seniors but also taught the students the importance of giving and compassion.
