For the past six years the Van-Far Character+ Team has been working on projects to benefit our students and Van-Far Jr./Sr. High School.
Each year, the team develops a list of character traits that are then narrowed down from a survey of the students, staff, community, and board members. This year the character traits are: October-Insightful; November-Brave; December-Giving; January-Inspirational; February-Dedicated; March-Unique; April-Modest; and May-Versatile.
Each month, students write statements about the character trait of the month and then winners are chosen, one for Junior High and one from High School. Then the yearbook staff takes pictures that are assigned to the winning statements which are then place on the Character+ wall by the High School Office.
Throughout these past six years, the team has chosen projects to benefit students through financial support, support of character traits, and support of the school.
During this past year, backpacks were purchased and so far this year the team has awarded two $250 scholarships for students attending the band trip to Florida.
Annually, the team supports the Angel Tree project at Christmas time. The Character+ Team also hosts the Holiday Craft Fest each year. Funds from the Craft Fest, along with other financial support, has been used to assist students in need.
The Holiday Craft Fest is scheduled for November 14 this year.
All members of the team have given of their time to promote positive character traits in the school and an annual assembly has provided students with speakers who encourage good character along with recognizing students and staff who represent good character.
