Van-Far had 42 kids in grades 8-12 participate in the Power Meet held last Saturday at South Callaway High School.
Every student that attended broke personal records in nearly all of their lifts.
“Big thing about getting younger kids fired up about lifting weights is to get them to understand it is a process,” said Van-Far Athletic Director Blake Logan. “The upperclassmen that they see succeeding were once in their shoes. I try to tell them not to compare their chapter one with some else’s chapter 20.”
Logan said he was proud of how the many Van-Far students are starting to buy into the importance of weight training.
“I feel like the kids have finally bought into the importance of the weight-room to their success on the field, court, etc.,” Logan said. “When a kid begins to see their body change is the moment they become addicted to the process. Kids and parents have to realize that the process is all about consistency. When there is consistency there will be progress. Weight-lifting boosts confidence, reduces risk of injury, and promotes a sense of friendly competition and team bonding that has helped kids push each other as well as believe in themselves. Although many kids did not place, every kid who went gained valuable knowledge and experience that will aid their future success.”
