Van-Far athletes excel at South Callaway Power Meet

A total of 53 Van-Far student athletes competed in the 2016 South Callaway Power Meet this past Saturday and the school picked up several big awards.
Van-Far’s girls won the 2016 Meet Team Championship in the girls competition.
The team scored 25 points to tie Eldon for the most points. Montgomery County was second place with 13 points in the six-team meet.
Van-Far was the only girls team to have double-digit scores in both the Blue and Silver Divisions.
In the Blue Division (140 lbs+), Jordan Garner was first place in overall athletic rating with a .7017.
She was also first in the 40-yard dash (5.60 seconds) and second in the vertical jump (23.2”).
Alivia Grady won the vertical jump event reaching 24.4”. She also set a Van-Far record by benching 161 lbs. for second place.
In the Silver Division (0-139 lbs.), Madison Orr led the girls with a Power Meet Weight Class Record after benching 147 lbs. for first place.
Orr set a Van-Far record with a hang clean of 167 lbs. and took third in squats after lifting 267 lbs.
Abbey Robinson also had a solid meet as she took second in the 40-yard dash with a time of 5.62 seconds. She set a new Van-Far record in the division with a third place overall athletic rating of 0.8445.

Boys participants
While there were several top boys performances, perhaps none more impressive than Andrew Snodgrass in the squat event.
Snodgrass lifted 515 lbs. for the second highest squat lift in meet history.
Snodgrass placed fifth overall for the 200-224.9 lb. weight class.
Parker Wallace had a strong meet as he was second overall in the 140-154.9 lb. weight class. Wallace won the squat by lifting 330 lbs. and was third in the bench press by lifting 225 lbs.
In the same weight class, Josh Hodde was sixth overall as he won the vertical jump after reaching 35.6” for a new Van-Far school record. He also took second in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.90 seconds.
Nick Barnes was eighth in the weight class as he took second in the hang clean with 245 lbs.
Jacob Garner place fourth overall in the 155-169.9 lb. weight class though he didn’t earn a top-three finish in any of the events.
Jayson Orr was sixth overall in the 0-124.9 lb. weight class. Orr took third in the 40-yard dash in 5.14 seconds.
Other top finishers included Sharrod Connor taking second in the bench press with a lift of 235 lbs.
Michael Colson was third in the squat event after lifting 445 lbs.
Van-Far football coach Blake Logan said much of the credit for the success of Van-Far’s athletes goes to coaches Scott Eickhoff and Joe Basinger for their work with offseason training and Indians Trials.
