The Van-Far Alumni and Friends Association is pleased to announce that Luke Heim of Columbia, Mo. will be the special guest speaker for its annual dinner scheduled for September 28, 2013 in the Van-Far High School gym.
Luke, who is a 1988 graduate of Van-Far High School and also a 1992 graduate of the University of Missouri with a degree in biochemistry, is currently a Global Contract Coordinator for Dow AgroSciences R&D. He is responsible for identifying, managing, and administering research programs with third party organizations who do research for Dow AgroSciences.
Luke graduated from Van-Far High School in 1988 and also from the University of Missouri with a degree in biochemistry in 1992. After graduation he joined ABC Laboratories in Columbia, Mo. and began work as an environmental fate chemist. Luke started working for Dow AgroSciences in 1999 as a chemist in their environmental chemistry laboratory. In 2000, Luke began his role as a Global Contract Coordinator and designed the global process currently used for outsourcing research for three research and development functions. He has also been involved as a Science Leader for insecticides, a Project Leader for herbicides, and a Six-Sigma Green Belt Project Leader.
Luke lives with his wife Teresa and three children; Natalie (18), Lexi (15) and Chase (14) in Columbia, Mo. He is actively involved with his children’s school activities, participates in church events, and coaches a 16-year-old girls’ competitive softball team. His parents are Gary (Van-Far Class of 1961) and Janet Heim who reside near Middletown, Mo.
Tickets for the Dinner are available for $20 per guest and may be purchased from Craig’s Truck and Tractor Service, the Van-Far Principal’s office, or by calling 594-3308. A limited number of tickets will also be available at the door on the evening of the dinner at a cost of $25 per guest.
The Alumni Dinner activities will begin at 5 p.m. with a social hour and registration in the Van-Far gym. During the social hour tours of the building will be provided by Van-Far students to guests who are interested in seeing changes and additions to the building since 1959 when it first opened its doors to students. A catered dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the Singing Van-Far Alumni and Teachers Group which has been brought back by popular demand.
One of the primary objectives of the Alumni association is to provide scholarships to Van-Far students and alumni, and the 2012-2013 scholarship winners will be honored at the dinner and will have an opportunity to briefly explain their educational plans and goals for the future.
The Classes of 1943, 1953, 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, and 2003 having special celebrations this year will also be honored.
The Alumni dinner is being held on the Saturday evening of Prairie Days which provides an excellent opportunity for alumni to participate in the downtown activities and then to join fellow Van-Far alumni in a time of fellowship and reminiscing about their days at Van-Far.
All Van-Far graduates as well as Van-Far friends, and community members are cordially invited and encouraged to attend the evening’s activities.
