President Paul Ray opened the March 20 meeting of the Vandalia Area Historical Society by asking for new discoveries and donations. Charlene Teague reported that Marty Nation had dropped off a box of old snapshots without any identification and they had not been looked through yet. Carolyn McBride donated a Walsh Refractories Bowling Shirt worn by her husband Leo during the 1959-60 season when they won the American Bowling League Championship. All of these donations add to our museum and are much appreciated.
After regular reports were read and accepted, the discussion turned to possible fund raising events to be held during the summer. Plans for such events will be coordinated with the Fair Board and Chamber of Commerce, with details to be shared at the next meeting.
Paul reported on the progress of work in the Carter building. As this work is going slower than expected, our reopening date has been moved to April 23 at 9 a.m.
After setting the next meeting date for April 23 at 9 a.m. at the Genealogy Library, the meeting adjourned at 10:30 a.m. for coffee and cookies. All are welcome at our meetings. Note: This is the fourth Saturday. Submitted by Charlene Teague
