President Paul Ray opened the November 21 meeting by asking for new discoveries and donations. Charlene Teague reported the following: Nelda Rohr McCrory, of the Vandalia High School Class of 1943, donated two large scrapbooks containing pictures, programs, reunions up to and including 2013, and updates on members, the class picture, and other relevant information. Also in this donation was a picture of Butler School’s first-place float dated October 11, 1928, a 100-Year History of Spencer Creek Baptist Church, and a History of Missouri Baptists, a Spencer Creek Cornerstone Booklet covering the years 1959-2002 and two Ellis Brothers Cook Books. Dennis Foree brought in a History of the Waters Family. Kevin Griggs donated a box of Boy Scout items, a bag of vintage baby clothes belonging to Joe Griggs, a booklet-Vandalia Sportsman’s Club-of Missouri State Championship Coonhound Field Trial dated August 1948; two Vandalia Community Fair booklets, 1946 and 1947, a Boy Scout calendar-1944 from Mexico Savings Bank; Vandalia High School 7th Invitational Basketball tournament dated January 16-18, 1944, and a Sunday School lesson pamphlet dated 1935. Katherine Salmon donated a 90-Year History of the Second Christian Church dated September 14, 2014. All of these donations are greatly appreciated and add much to our growing museum.
After regular reports were read and accepted, plans for our Christmas party were finalized. It will be held on December 17 at the Genealogy Library at 6:30 p.m. After a brief business meeting refreshments will be served. The group decided that, instead of a gift exchange, everyone would bring items needed by the Museum and Library. A list of these items can be picked up at the museum during regular hours or by calling Pat Trower at 594-3999 or Charlene at 594-3026. Everyone is welcome.
It was also decided too have a “repeat” of our very successful card Party Fundraiser on January 17, 2015 at the Museum. The Museum will be open at 5 p.m. for browsing time. At 6 p.m., soup, sandwiches, finger foods, and desert will be served. At 7 p.m., Ten-Point Pitch will be played with a 15-minute break at approximately 8:30 p.m. Tickets, at $20 each, may be picked up at the Museum during regular hours or by calling Charlene at 594-3026. Seating will be limited so get your tickets early. They also make very nice Christmas gifts. All tickets must be paid for by December 27. If you buy a ticket and find that you cannot attend, please call Charlene or Pat so that we might fill your chair at the table. After wishing everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving and setting the next meeting date for 6:30 p.m. on December 19 at the Genealogy Library, the meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings.
