At a new time, the Vandalia Area Historical Society met at the Genealogy Library at 9 a.m. on March 21 with coffee and donuts. President Paul Ray welcomed the group and asked for new discoveries and donations. Charlene Teague reported that Mick and Janie Hayden had donated a lovely dress belonging to the late Genii Clark Kindred, a picture of her in a similar dress, believed to have been taken between 1905 and 1908, and a box from H.C. Moore, “The Friendly Jeweler,” of Vandalia, containing a lady’s delicate 8” folding fan. They also donated an account of a presentation of “Fashions and Stories from the Vandalia Area 1870’s-1930’s” by the Vandalia Area Historical Society in March of 2007. Joe Hassien donated numerous items belonging to the late Wilmer Butts, including 8”x 10” photos of the first three Vandalia City Police Cars. Dennis Foree donated a history of the Waters family, going back to the late 1600’s. We encourage everyone with ties to this area to bring us their family histories as a committee is working diligently to compile this information. All of these donations are greatly appreciated.
