President Vicki Wright opened the November 18 meeting of the Vandalia Area Historical Society (VAHS) by asking for new discoveries and donations. Charlene Teague reported that Carolyn McBride brought in several pieces of lovely handwork that she had done over the years. Teresa Wenzel donated 14 books related to the histories of different areas. Susan Callahan Dryer, via Deanna Divins, donated two awards honoring her father Ray Callahan, by the Missouri Association of Public Works, and at badge certifying his attendance at the 14th Annual Session of the Grand Lodge of Missouri of Independent Order of Odd Fellows as Deputy Grand Master, held in May of 1983. All of these donations are greatly appreciated.
After regular reports were read and approved, the discussion turned to our participation in Prairie Days and how we might add something new next year.
We voted to change the date for the January Supper and Card Party to January 27 with the price of tickets to remain at $25 each. Tickets will be available soon during our regular weekend hours or by calling Charlene at 594-3026 or Vickie at 594-3657.
We also voted to close the Museum at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 24, re-opening March 31, 2018 weather permitting.
The card party tickets make a nice Christmas gift, as would our two-volume set of Vandalia History for $85 or Charlene’s book, “Charleneisms-Words to Live By” for $15.
Everyone is invited to stop by, to see our new displays inside and new window displays.
There will be no meeting in December. After setting date for the next meeting for January 20, 2018, the meeting adjourned at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome at our meetings.
