Two Community R-VI golfers advanced to the sectional round last week after finishing with rounds in the Top-25 at the Class 1, District 3 match held on the Hail Ridge Golf Course in Booneville, Mo.
Caleb Bertels led the Trojans after shooting a 52 on the front nine and a 48 on the back for a 100 to earn all-district honors.
His teammate Chris Wieberg didn’t earn all-district honors but shot a 53 on the front nine and a 55 on the back for a 108.
Both freshmen will now compete in the Class 1, Section 2 match at Moberly on Thursday, May 3.
“I am very excited for these two young men,” said Community R-VI head coach Vicki Briggs. “The two freshman had some good holes and some ‘blow up’ holes which is an easy thing to do at Hail Ridge with it’s water and tall grass.”
Treyton Kobush ended his season with a 134, Sean Wilson shot a 139, and Trever Hoyt added a 141.
In team scores, the Trojans defeated Van-Far by 125 strokes to hold onto eighth place. Louisiana won the district title by 60 strokes with a 323.
Earlier in the week, the Trojans lost a tri-match with Montgomery County and Silex.
The Wildcats won with a 170, the Owls had 188, and the Trojans shot a 247 as they played without both Bertels and Wieberg. Wilson led Community R-VI with a 57, Kobush shot a 61, Alex Becker shot a 62, Bryan Allen added a 67, Brittni Brandwein shot a 68, Hoyt shot a 69, and Amelia Knipfel shot a 70. Keith Caldwell played for the JV squad and shot a personal best 51.
