Trojans split pair of EMO Conference games

The Community R-VI boys basketball team improved as a team one week earlier in the Madison Tournament though they were unable to pick up a win.
The Trojans carried that momentum to last Tuesday night when they hosted Wright City and pulled away late in a 64-52 victory over Wright City.
Community R-VI led by two at the end of the first quarter before outscoring the Wildcats 18-11 just before halftime to go up by nine.
The Trojans outscored Wright City 28-25 in the second half to win the game by 12.
Community R-VI’s offense was on fire as it made 22-of-37 shots from the field and 10-of-19 3-point shots. Meanwhile, the defense forced 18 turnovers.
Bobby Jett led the Trojans with 21 points, one assist, and one rebound while Cordell Hollensteiner added 14 points.
Matt Gastler had 11 points, six rebounds, one block, one assist, and led with five deflections/tips when on defense. Anthony Fairchild added eight points, four rebounds, two steals, and one assist; Gatlin Curtis had three points, seven assists, two steals, and one rebound; Eric Hombs had three points, one rebound, and one assist; Jamie Householder chipped in two points; and Klayton Bosworth had two points.
Loss to Elsberry
The Trojans ended their week by running into a solid Elsberry program and lost, 59-43.
Community R-VI was unable to stall the Indians’ defense early as they trailed 21-14 at the end of the first quarter. Elsberry went on to outscore the Trojans 26-15 in the next two frames before holding on late for a 16-point victory.
Both teams combined to take 112 shots from the field with Elsberry making 19 and the Trojans finishing with 15.
Elsberry outrebounded Community R-VI, 52-39. Elsberry was 14-of-27 from the free throw line while the Trojans were 6-of-17.
Fairchild led Community R-VI with 20 points, five rebounds, and two steals while Hollensteiner added 13 points, five rebounds, and one steal.
Gastler added four points and 12 rebounds while adding two deflections/tips on defense; Jett had four points and two rebounds; Curtis had two points, one rebound, and one steal; and Homes had three rebounds and one steal.
