The Community R-VI Trojans basketball team continued its strong season last week after picking up two big EMO Conference wins over Elsberry and Wright City.
The Trojans are now 4-1 in the EMO Conference and have an overall record of 11-2.
In a home matchup with Elsberry, the Trojans jumped out to a 27-11 first quarter lead and never looked back.
Community R-VI led by 22 points at halftime before holding on late for a 69-52 victory.
Lane Thebeau scored a team-high 20 points while Conner Brooks added 19 points. Clay Thebeau added 12 points, seven assists, and five rebounds; Anthony Fairchild scored seven points with five rebounds; Doug Davenport had five points; Brandon Arens added four points; and Kyle Curtis scored two points and pulled down five rebounds.
Beating Wright City
Foul trouble hurt the Trojans early in their matchup with Wright City on the road last week.
The bench responded as the Trojans led 19-6 at the end of the first quarter and helped the Trojans hold on for a 32-24 halftime edge.
Community R-VI responded in the second half by outscoring the Wildcats 48-39 to win the game 80-63.
“(We had an) early foul problem,” said head coach Kenneth Jett. “(We) went into the bench and it stepped up big. (It was a) good road win. (Gave us an) even better chance to grow as a team.”
Lane Thebeau scored a team-high 21 points while Clay Thebeau had 16 points and four assists. Brooks added a near double-double with nine points and seven rebounds; Davenport had nine points and three assists; Arens added eight points and five rebounds; Gage Graves was solid off the bench with five points; and Adam Hombs scored two points.
