Trojans knock off Mustangs

Another run crosses the plate in Community R-VI’s home victory against Marion County.

The Community R-VI Trojans varsity baseball team started their 2018 season with a big 11-0 win over Marion County last Thursday night at home. The Trojans were paced by a six-run, second inning before adding four more runs in the third.
“I was very pleased with our performance and reminded the guys that we kept lifting each other up and kept the line moving,” said Community R-VI head coach David Matthews.
Matt Gastler tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout as he struck out 13 in five innings pitched.
Behind Matt Gastler, the Trojans’ defense had an error-free game.
Matt Gastler was also solid at the plate by going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Both Nathan Gastler and Rafferty had two RBIs and one run scored; Cordell Hollensteiner added two runs scored; Klayton Bosworth had one RBI; Hartsock scored three runs; and both Swaim and Duenke scored one run.
The offense drew 11 walks in the win.
