The Community R-VI boys basketball team appeared ready to pick up their second win of the season after the first half concluded against Paris in the Gary Filbert Classic held last Saturday in Mexico.
After all, the Trojans’ offense exploded for 34 points in the first two quarters for a 34-20 lead at halftime.
Unfortunately, the team fell apart in the second half and lost the game, 61-54.
Community R-VI was outscored 41-20 in the final two quarters and scored only 10 points in the third and in the fourth.
“Played well (in the) first half,” said Community R-VI head boys basketball coach Ken Jett.
“Quit doing things that worked in the first half. Came out flat (in the) third quarter. Showed our varsity lack of experience but showed signs of improvement.”
In the loss, the Trojans made 8-of-13 free throws while the Coyotes made 12-of-21.
Cordell Hollensteiner led Community R-VI with 18 points and four rebounds, Bobby Jett had 14 points, Gage Graves added 13 points, and Anthony Fairchild had four rebounds.
