Community R-VI’s offense had a solid performance in their home match-up with Wright City last week.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough in a 77-71 loss to Wright City.
The Wildcats jumped out to a nine-point lead early.
Bobby Jett scored 13 of his game-high 33 points in the second quarter but the Trojans trailed by 10 at halftime.
The Trojans’ defense picked up five stops in a row to start the third quarter but the Community R-VI offense couldn’t get anything going.
Wright City outscored Community R-VI, 15-6.
The Trojans charged back into the game in the fourth quarter as they had a 31-point frame.
Jett scored 16 points while Cordell Hollensteiner added 13 but the rally was too late.
“We scored enough points, just didn’t get enough stops,” said Community R-VI head coach Matthew Thomas. “Third quarter killed us. We got about five stops in a row to start the third but couldn’t score ourselves. That was really the ball game.”
Jett had 33 points; Hollensteiner added 23 points; Eric Hombs scored nine points; while Blaze Escamilla, Jaryn Kuda, and Evan Hartsock each scored two points.
Falling big to
The Trojans followed their loss to the Wildcats with a 30-point defeat at home to Elsberry, 80-50.
The Trojans’ offense was outscored 26-7 in the first quarter. Trailing by 22 points at halftime, Community R-VI couldn’t match-up with Elsberry’s bigs in the second half and never got into the game in the big loss.
“Elsberry just physically handled us,” Thomas said. “It was an extremely physical game. We just couldn’t keep that pace up.”
The now 5-9 Trojans were led by Jett’s 15 points. Hollensteiner had 12 points; Hombs scored six; Escamilla added nine points; Hartsock had five points; and Kuda scored three points.
