A fire truck was parked on the corner of Main St. and Highway 54 last week to honor the late Bill Hicks, who passed away on Monday, July 10.
Hicks dedicated himself to community service, working part-time for both the Audrain County Sheriff’s Office and the Vandalia Police Department.
He joined Vandalia Fire and Rescue in 1976 and served as the Vandalia Fire Chief from 1998-2005. He also served as a first responder for many years and remained with the fire department until his illness prevented him from serving any longer.
A Visitation will be held from noon-1 p.m. on Saturday, July 22 at Waters Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Hoehn officiating. A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home. Interment will take place in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Memorials are encouraged to St. Jude’s Hospital.
